A family vineyard, silent for fifty years, brought back to life.
The history of Aiola Vecchia began over fifty years ago with the Tonini/Raspanti family, when Grandfather Lido first planted these vines. Today, guided by the expertise of winemaker Fabio Marchi, this land is entering its most inspiring chapter yet. These vines are the heart of our wines. With deep, strong roots and an identity shaped by time, they produce fruit of exceptional balance.
Located in the area of San Biaggio at an altitude of 450 meters, the vineyard benefits from a perfect orientation and a microclimate that allows vines to express the true character of the soil. Comprising mostly Sangiovese grapes and a small part of Merlot and other local varieties, our vineyard is a living history—finally ready to be shared with the world.
Vineyard with typical vines in a great location with excellent conditions
In 1971, the first 1.5 hectares were planted with biotypes of selected Sangiovese grapes from the Montepulciano region (Prugnolo Gentile). These original vines were planted alongside a small percentage of indigenous varieties, including Canaiolo, Mammolo, and Trebbiano. In 2006 the vineyard was expanded by one hectare with the introduction of Merlot.
The vineyard is situated on a slope with a west/northwest exposure featuring rows oriented north-south. The soil is primarily sandy with a good percentage of clay—a unique composition that allows our wines to express great aromatic potential and finesse, with a good structure provided by the clay.
